While Beryl's remnants vexed us for that last few days we thought it was all over by today. However, last night the winds blew nutso-strong again. We really didn't want to stay longer in New Bedford, even though we didn't get to do much because of the weather, so we took our chances and made the dash across the bay to Martha's Vineyard.
It wasn't a big risk; While strong the winds were blowing from the southwest. The ride would be beamy until we got into the lee of the islands, and that would only be about 45 minutes or so. Turned out not to be a bad ride at all. Choppy. but only 1 foot, occasionally 2. The hardest part of the day was dodging the fast and powerful ferries that run to and from Martha's.

Even in the protected bay the ball at New Bedford was choppy. |

Wind speed. NOT going the right direction. |
Martha's Vineyard was first for us. We've never been here before, and plan to stay about a week, moving about the island. Looking at weather the rest of the country is about to get broiled this week. Temps here should be in the 80s. Excellent timing, in that regard.
First we'll be in Edgartown. Even all bleak and dreary it looks like a cute town.

Much more placid here. Edgartown across the way. |
